Despues de 3 meses he finalmente vuelto a mi casa, a mi cocina, a
nuestro taller, a ver mis personas queridas, a mis animales... Gracias a
visitar nuevos lugares, conocer diferentes culturas, costumbres,
cocinas...
Mi trabajo fuera de The Old Kitchen me llevò a Nigeria, a Calabar..
Happy Summer everyone!!
Con Las Telas de los Sacos de Cafè...
...With the Coffee Beans Sacks
Algunos Muebles Nuevos y otras ideas...
...Some new cabinets and other ideas..
Los Colores de Biafra... The Colours of Biafra..
...
After 3 months I am finally home, to my kitchen, to our atelier and workshop, to my loved ones, to my pets... Thanks to my "Other Life" outside our workshop and atelier at Mercantic I got to visit new places, got to discover different cultures, different ways of living, different kitchens...
My work outside The Old Kitchen took me to Nigeria, to Calabar... It was a special journey, different, sometimes difficult, always striking. All the things that seem ordinary to us here, are extraordinary there, all those things we take for granted here are indispensable there and seem impossible to live without. The small things become bigger and the big ones smaller....
I came back very grateful for living in our first world, I feel very lucky for all I have even though sometime I forget how lucky I am. All I have I got it through effort and hard work and I also have made our atelier and workshop possible through a lot of effort, hard work and the support of many!! And now we have opened a new space where we can create, restore, decorate and also give classes!!
I came back very creative, with a lot of ideas and with a desire for colours and happiness, it is summer afterall, I am home and we have a new atelier!!
The Old Kitchen dresses up for the summer season to make sure every corner of your house makes you happy,
Happy Summer everyone!!

We Love Our Kitchen and We Love NY!!
.... “The place I like best in this world is the kitchen. No matter where it is, no matter what kind, if it’s a kitchen, if it’s a place where they make food, it’s fine with me. Ideally it should be well broken in. Lots of tea towels, dry and immaculate. Where tile catching the light (ting! Ting!)”..
So it begins Banana Yoshimoto's 1988 novel "Kitchen", one of my favourite books I read when I was 19 and haven't been able to get this sentence off my mind since.
To me the Kitchen is the most magical place of the house... The Kitchen, where the family meet to prepare meals for the holidays, where they have their lunches or dinners in the intimacy of an unladen table when there are no guests; where they have breakfasts, snacks, do their homeworks while grandma or mum and dad prepare dinner, where we open our hearts over a cup of tea or cry our hearts out over a loss, where you hide with your best friend to gossip during a party...
Most of my happiest memories take place in the kitchens of my life, in the tiny one in the house of my childhood in Rome or in the grand kitchen of the beach house. My grandparents where great cooks and my great grandparents had a restaurant, my mum and my stepmum cook incredibly well, my brother is a great cook and holds the high the family flag, my best friend was a pastry chef for a long time and my boyfriend is a chef... I cook rather well, I am Italian, love to eat and have good imagination, but over all I love the Kitchen at what it represents, with all my heart.
It's the place in the house where I spend most of my time, whether is the kitchen of my house in the woods or the one we recreate in our atelier...
...Lately I was so lucky to have the chance to visit NY and aside from eating very well in lots of nice restaurants and spending time in my firend Giuseppe's lovely kitchen, I had the opportunity to visit some great flea markets where I met beautiful people and found beautiful things! If you go to NY don't miss out on Brooklyn's flea market in Fort Greene on saturday and in Williamsburg on sunday. Once there look for Windsor Place Antiques, Brooklyn Bug, Frank Fazio o Betty's Kitchen....
I now would like to share with you the beautiful things I found in NY and other places and that you can find in our atelier, so that your kitchen can be the place you've always dreamt of...
